South Maitland Railways 10 Class No 10 : ウィキペディア英語版 | South Maitland Railways 10 Class No 10
South Maitland Railways 10 Class No 10 is a locomotive used by South Maitland Railways for coal haulage in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia between 1912 and 1983. == Construction == J&A Brown who opened up Pelam Main and Richmond Main collieries in the early 1900s purchased four second-hand 0-6-4 tank locomotives from the Mersey Railway for coal haulage. These locomotives were not successful and a new 2-8-2 tank locomotive was ordered from Kitson & Co. It arrived in 1908 and was found to be more than adequate to the New South Wales Government Railways T Class. Meanwhile the East Greta Coal Mining Company (later formed South Maitland Railways) continued using second-hand 4, 6 and 8 coupled wheel locomotives for coal haulage. Up until then the only new locomotives had been bought from the Avonside Engine Co. but they broke that tradition when larger locomotives were needed and went to Beyer, Peacock & Co. A tank locomotive with an enclosed cab and better vision when running backwards was favoured over a tender design. Beyer Peacock constructed one locomotive in 1911 to a design that can be compared with a saturated Government Railways 10 Class.
